Big Action on the Small Screen
Modern Combat 5: Blackout is now finally available to play on Windows 8, making this game more accessible than ever before. The other instalments of the game have been praised for their original storylines, great graphics and action. Read the full review to discover if Modern Combat 5: Black for Windows 8 was worth the wait.
This first person shooter game features very polished graphics that really come into their own on Windows 8. Some of the effects are simply stunning, such as the water droplets that splash up onto the screen and help make players feel like they are actually inside this imaginative and well represented gaming world. The backdrops are more destructive than ever before and the explosive effects are almost mind blowing.
Unfortunately, the game is less than original. Once again, gamers play the role of a tough action hero who has to go up against a group of terrorists and take them out before they wreak havoc on the world. While this plot is very similar to many games that have come before, the action is so engaging that many players may not notice the plot at all.
This instalment of the action saga also features plenty of new features that gamers are sure to enjoy. Players have the chance to earn medals, a whole lot of XP, unlockables and much more. There are four different classes for gamers to choose from; Heavy, Assault, Recon and Sniper. As players progress through the game they will gradually be able to unlock these classes as well as the skills and special missions that come with each class.
Customising the fight styles can be very satisfying and gamers can even specify special features such as they weapon of choice and the specifications of the gun they have selected. There are several different conflict zones in the game and each of these conflict zones contains four or five missions. Some of the missions can be completed fairly quickly, allowing players to rack up the points and get on with the next exciting stage of the game. Missions include clearing rooms of all the enemies in a set amount of time or simply covering the other members of your team as they advance.
Gamers who are intent on realism are sure to notice that their character is very resilient to gunfire, even at close range. They also seem to heal very quickly and are ready to roll again in almost no time at all. However, this game is all about fun and one of the bonuses is that advancing in this game is much easier than in some of the competing first person shooter games out there.
The only major downside with the game is that the controls can be tough to get the hang of. However, once players have mastered the rather limited controls, the fun begins and before you know it you star piling up dead bodies as well as points. This game can only be played online, so an internet connection is needed to join in the action and adventure.
The great graphics of Modern Combat 5: Blackout more than make up for the lack in story. People who are all about action and want a great looking world to explore while they blast the bad guys into oblivion and take part in missions are sure to be in their element.
- The visuals are very detailed
- Lots of mini missions to complete
- The storyline is not very original
- The controls can be tricky to master
